From the age of 10, Paul Sathio was captivated by the game of badminton, training rigorously and dreaming of becoming a national player in Indonesia, then the world's top-ranked country in the sport. Growing up next to a warehouse with a badminton court, Paul's passion was ignited by the skill of neighbourhood players, driving him to train during his junior years, to then dominate in high school inter-school competitions in Bali. Despite his father's initial reluctance, Paul's determination led him to seek better training opportunities in Surabaya. Although he ultimately shifted his focus to pursue a career in civil engineering and development in Australia, his passion for badminton never waned.
After achieving significant milestones in his professional career, including founding and growing his own development company, Paul has found a way to give back to the sport that shaped his early life. Through the Sathio Group Australian Badminton Open, Paul has been able to support local badminton in Australia and help bring Australian badminton to an international stage. The annual Super 500 event, part of the prestigious HSBC BWF World Tour, is held in Sydney and draws over 270 players from 26 countries, all competing for vital ranking points and a chance to qualify for the World Tour Finals.
Paul's journey from a young aspiring badminton player to a successful entrepreneur and supporter of the sport is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of giving back to the community. Proud to support the Australian Badminton Open under his new company, Sathio Group, Paul's commitment to the badminton community not only honours his roots but also supports the next generation of athletes to pursue their dreams with the same dedication and resilience. The Sathio Group Australian Badminton Open stands as a beacon of the fighting spirit, reflecting Paul's enduring love for the game and his desire to see it flourish in Australia.
