Mayabay Active Group appointed Mr Eugene Joannides as Chairman in 2015 and he continues to lead our team policies and philosophy towards development of the Project Activ concept in our regions.
Eugene Joannides is a Chartered Accountant with an MBA and over 35 years experience as a senior executive in the hotel, leisure entertainment restaurant and Cinema industries. His
experience spans groups such as Southern Sun Hotels, Sun International, Kersaf investment Groups, One & Only Resorts and Ster Kinekor Group ( Interleisure).
Sun International developed the world renowned Sun City Resort and Entertainment Complex and created the, at that time, biggest prize money Golf Tournament the Sun City US$ 1m Golf Challenge back in 1981. Eugene has served on the main boards of several major South African hotel groups and has been involved in development of hotels, resorts, golf courses and entertainment concepts throughout Asia including Destination Properties group and The Beaches project in Thailand.
Eugene has a proven track record in the fields of development, construction, finance, mergers, acquisitions as well as operations of destination resorts, city hotels, recreation, entertainment centres, restaurant and cinema chains. He was simultaneously an executive
director of Southern Sun Hotels, (now known as Tsoga Sun) Sun International, and the Kersaf investment Groups all of which were listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and for which he lead the IPO’s.
