Ten apartments. One address.

Barncleuth began as a vision for considered living, drawing from the best of Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay.

A curved façade in blonde brickwork, only two residences per floor, and a location steps from the restaurants, galleries and harbour that define the neighbourhood.

That vision is now rising out of the ground. Completion is on track for Q1 2027, and limited apartments now remain.

For the Pyrmont Design Competition, proposal is shaped by the unique layers of place.

Inspired by the escarpment landscape, street wall apartments and elevated towers of Jackson’s Landing, the design translates Pyrmont’s character into a curving podium that forms a welcoming public garden.

A new pocket park emerges at ground level, reflecting the informal open spaces found throughout the suburb and inviting the community into the site.

The material palette thoughtfully interprets both country and colonial history, creating a respectful dialogue between past and present.

Strong connections to surrounding streets and public spaces reinforce the project’s civic role.

This is one of five architectural visions shaping Pyrmont’s future.

Throughout January, we’ve shared the thinking and the teams behind each proposal as part of the Pyrmont Design Competition.

Every project begins with a question.

As Pyrmont continues to evolve, each architect was asked to respond to the same challenge:

How should this place engage with its community?

In this final chapter, shares their response, grounded in the character of place, from the escarpment landscape to the layered streetscapes and towers that shape Pyrmont’s identity.

Their proposal channels these qualities through a sinuous podium that curves inward to form a welcoming public garden, creating a new pocket park inspired by Pyrmont’s informal open spaces.

The design also draws on interpretations of both country and colonial history, synthesising a material palette that is respectful and considered.

This is one of five architectural visions shaping the future of Pyrmont.

For the Pyrmont Design Competition, proposal centres on connection at every scale.

Responding to Pyrmont’s visibility from the harbour and its emergence as a civic edge, the design considers how architecture can strengthen relationships between street, landscape and community within a transforming precinct.

Through layered activation, generous landscape pockets and a jewel-like, light-responsive facade, the proposal prioritises permeability, interaction and a deep connection to place.

This is one of five architectural visions shaping Pyrmont’s future.
