I purchased the first property in 2008 when interest rates were 7.25%, so considering the subsequent 13 years fall of interest rates the benefit has been great, and while the rapid increase to 4.1% has been felt its not fatal. Looking forward for interest rates to normalise at around 3% sometime in the next 12 - 18 months

CASH RATE IN AUSTRALIA

Are rising interest rates catastrophic … or just a “further step in the normalisation of monetary conditions in Australia” following the extraordinary response to the pandemic (as the RBA puts it)?

Interest rates remain low by historical standards

Firstly, there’s the cash rate, which, as the graph below shows, is still incredibly low by historical standards, despite the RBA’s aggressive tightening.
