Hobble training… let’s talk about it 👀

This post may be controversial to some people, and that’s okay — everyone has different views when it comes to horse training.

Personally, this morning reminded me exactly why I choose to hobble train my horses.

My mare managed to get her leg caught through the cattle railings, and instead of panicking, pulling back or thrashing around, she stood calmly and patiently until I could help free her.

For me, hobble training isn’t about restraint or forcing a horse to submit. It’s about teaching them how to respond to pressure, think through a situation and wait rather than panic if they ever find themselves caught or restricted.

I also believe that a tool itself isn’t automatically “cruel.” Almost any piece of equipment can become unfair or harmful when used incorrectly — it comes down to the knowledge, timing and way it is introduced and applied.

I just wanted to make a post to say how incredibly proud I am of this girl!!! ❤️🐴

Lucy and Daz have been working SO hard on overcoming their ridden fears, building confidence and, most importantly, getting back to having fun together! 🙌🏼

Today, they headed out to their very first dressage competition and came home with 3rd place!! 🥉👏🏼

Such a beautiful reminder that hard work, patience and perseverance really do pay off. Watching the confidence and partnership between these two grow has been so rewarding, and I couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come together.

A massive congratulations to Lucy & Daz — you absolutely deserve it! 🙏🏾🙌🏼❤️
