Running a business isn’t just about delivering great work - it’s also about navigating situations that most people never see.
Everyone has heard stories about bad businesses, but what about the customers who make it almost impossible for honest businesses to do their job?
The ones who continually request additional work outside the agreed scope but expect it to be included at no extra cost. The ones who keep changing the goalposts, prevent access to complete the work, then complain the job wasn’t finished. Or those who agree to variations along the way, only to later deny they ever approved them.
Thankfully, these situations are rare. The overwhelming majority of our clients are genuine, respectful people, and we’re incredibly grateful for every one of them.
But every now and then, you come across someone who happily accepts your willingness to go above and beyond, only to later dispute what was agreed.
It’s a reminder of why detailed quotes, written approvals for variations, documented communication and clear expectations are so important - for everyone involved. We’ve learnt that while most people value honesty, integrity and fairness, not everyone operates by those same principles.
We believe in doing things properly. Where specialist licensing or qualifications are required, we engage appropriately licensed and qualified professionals to ensure every project is completed to the appropriate standard.
We’ll continue to do what we’ve always done: treat our clients with respect, deliver quality work, and stand by our word. That’s how we believe lasting relationships are built.
And… maybe one day there’ll be a “Rate My Customer” website to balance out all the business review platforms! 😉
