Tanunda has been nominated for SA’s Top Tourism Town 2026.

We’re fortunate to welcome visitors from all over Australia and the world to the Barossa and see firsthand why people keep returning. Heritage streets, cellar doors, great food and wine, and a relaxed country atmosphere all play a part.

If you’d like to support Tanunda, voting is open until 17 May:

Just around the corner from Whiterocks is the wonderful Apex Bakery, a traditional Barossa bakery with more than 100 years of history.

There’s something about the smell of fresh bread straight from a wood fired oven that instantly slows you down and makes you feel on holiday.

One of our favourite simple pleasures in Tanunda is an early morning walk to pick up a fresh loaf, still warm from the oven, then back to Whiterocks for coffee and a relaxed breakfast by the fire or out on the veranda depending on the season

Gather Round showed it again this year. The Barossa is not just a day trip, it is where people choose to stay.

Guests based themselves here, headed into the footy, then came back to a fire, a glass of Barossa red, and a proper place to unwind.

That is the experience.

If you are planning ahead for next year’s Gather Round, or simply looking for a Barossa escape any time, Whiterocks Tanunda is set up for exactly this. Walk to cafés, wineries and restaurants, or stay in and enjoy the space, the fireplace and the quiet.

Sleeps up to 8. Ideal for two couples or a small group.

Well over 10,000 footy fans streamed through the gates at Barossa Park for both Saturday and Sunday’s AFL Gather Round matches, backed up by a record crowd in Tanunda’s main street for the ultimate post-match party.

A proper Barossa winter is on its way, and today the old ’54 Chev was put back to work doing what it was built for.

Collected a load of quality redgum and sugargum firewood mix from Matthew Reimann Firewood Supplies and the Chev didn’t even raise a sweat, in fact, the truck rides better with a decent load on, settles down nicely, and just feels right earning its keep again.

The hard part is already done. The timber is cut perfectly for the firebox. I handled stacking the wood pile, so everything is now ready to go for the season ahead.

Guests often tell us their favourite part of a Barossa stay is the quiet evening after a day out at the wineries, then back to Whiterocks fire lit, glass of Barossa red in hand, and nowhere else to be.

That is exactly what this is about.

If you are planning a winter escape, the firewood is stacked, the house is warm, and the pace slows down the moment you walk in.

And I’ll enjoy a cold Rehn Bier 1837 after stacking the wood.

The Greenock is a proper Barossa pub and one we’ve enjoyed for years.

There’s a bit of personal history here for us as well. My parents were involved in pubs in Eudunda, Angaston and later Adelaide, and knew the Schluter family, who owned The Greenock for over 100 years. That connection makes it even more special to drop in.

These days it’s in great hands, with the same strong sense of community, good honest food and consistency that keeps people coming back.

We still like to call in from time to time, occasionally in the old ’54 Chev, for a beer and a meal.

If you go, do yourself a favour and try the schnitzel.

It’s about a 15 minute drive from Whiterocks and an easy addition to your Barossa plans.

Rehn Bier getting ready for Gather Round at the Old Mill Brewery.

An easy walk from Whiterocks, and well worth it.

Proper small-batch brewing on site, and consistently good. I’m particularly partial to their 1837 Ale.

If you’re staying with us over the weekend, this is one you don’t need to drive to.

Good to see local operators making the most of Gather Round.

All go this morning Old Mill Brewery. Can't wait to see you all later today! We'll also be setup next to the main stage at the Barossa Food and Wine Village in Tanunda main street from 3.30pm alongside Forage Supply Co and Seppeltsfield Road Distillers.

We’ve enjoyed several great meals at Com Viet in Kapunda over the years, and have come to know Maggie and Graham personally.

They run a genuinely fantastic local restaurant, and it shows in the food and the welcome.

Great to see them taking part in Gather Round in Lyndoch this year. Well deserved.

If you’re heading that way, make sure you stop in and support them.

And if you’re staying with us at Whiterocks, Com Viet is an easy recommendation from us.

Wishing Maggie and Graham every success for the weekend.

LYNDOCH BOUND! 🏉🇻🇳

2025 and 2026 have brought the incredible Gather Round to our doorstep in Lyndoch, and Com Viet has the honor to be a part of it.

Because our full heart and energy are needed at the Gather Round this weekend, our Kapunda shop will be closed this Saturday 11 to next Monday 13.

We ask you to bear with us while we represent our town on the big stage. Please back us up, keep that local spirit high, and come celebrate with us next week when we return!

Let’s show them what Kapunda is made of. See you in Lyndoch! 🏆

Whiterocks • Gather Round 2026

Gather Round 2026 delivered. Full stadiums, seamless transport and we were fully booked 8 months in advance.

Location is the advantage along with comfort, style and privacy. A short walk to the Barossa Visitor Centre on Murray Street, Tanunda, with free shuttle buses between Tanunda and Barossa Park at Lyndoch. No parking issues. No congestion.

Our current guests from Victoria are repeat visitors. Two couples who stayed with us last year and returned for the same reason. The format works. Some head to the footy, others stay back to enjoy Tanunda’s cafés, pubs and wineries. Everyone gets the weekend they actually want.

That flexibility is the difference.
Event access when you want it. Barossa lifestyle when you don’t.

Whiterocks is a 1930s Barossa stone home with high ceilings, thick walls and a calm, settled feel that modern builds rarely match. Restored for comfort but retaining its original character, it features a private garden, a generous lounge with a wood burning fireplace, and importantly two full bathrooms. It is somewhere to return to at the end of the day, not just somewhere to sleep.

If you are considering Gather Round 2027, plan early. This is not a last-minute market.
