I was first attracted to Surveying due to the great mix of outdoor activity balanced with the need for a bit of mathematics nous and the ability to interpret and apply legislation. I was also taken by the unmatched mix of modern Australian history that underpins our titling system balanced with ever evolving measurement / data capture technologies Surveyors have exposure to. This recent example is an Original Reference Tree (ORT) first carved in January 1884 by Surveyor CR Woodward (well, most probably his Chainman). A beautiful Gum that has stood the test of time and was a welcome find that helped reinstate the boundaries of this rural survey.
