You’ll also see ‘Duck Duck’ in the background. Duck Duck is a wild duck that’s been visiting the farm long before we arrived. He/she only has 1 webbed foot, the other is a peg leg. Sometimes we won’t see Duck Duck for weeks and then they’ll suddenly start appearing again.

Little Zebby is growing and healing very well ❤️‍🩹

Almost 4 weeks post (complicated) castration, his sc***um swelling is slowly going down and the wound is looking ok, the rainy weather certainly isn’t helping. But he’s a week off antibiotics now so these are all really positive signs!

We have him out free ranging around the house today - he got a good brush, enjoyed a tractor ride, broke my ceramic bird bath 💔 and had a good nibble at all my plants which were starting to grow back after he ate them all 🙄

An absolute ratbag but such a gorgeous little ratbag who makes us smile every single day 🖤

Yesterday we introduced Chip and Pepper, and today it’s time to meet the other two new members of the Little Kooka Farm family… ❤️

Introducing Tom and Tam! ✨

These two arrived with their duck friends. It’s clear they have been very well loved, and we’re grateful to have been trusted to give them a new home 🏡

Tom and Tam are Guinea fowl, and if you know Guinea fowl, you’ll know they come with plenty of personality 🤡 We’re looking forward to watching them settle in, find their place amongst the flock, and keep us entertained with their quirky ways.

Welcome to Little Kooka Farm, Tom and Tam. We’re so happy to have you here. 🥰

Mumma Frizzle 🐓 is not impressed that I’m using her night pen for Chip & Pepper’s 🦆 day pen. It’s only short term until I can get something more permanent set up 🏡

The ducklings absolutely loooove water 💦 so I’ll keep them safely outside to ‘duck’ around and then they’ll come back inside at night under heat 😴

We’d like to introduce 4 new additions to Little Kooka Farm! 🦆❤️

Yesterday, a lovely family reached out looking to rehome four much-loved feathered friends due to an unfortunate change in circumstances. It’s clear these babies have been adored, and we know it couldn’t have been an easy decision for their family.

Today we’d like you to meet Chip 💛 🦆 and Pepper 🩶 🦆

There are also two other cheeky characters which we’ll introduce tomorrow once they’ve had a chance to settle 🏡

Matt has wanted ducks for as long as I can remember, so it’s safe to say we’re very happy to finally have some waddling around the farm. We can’t wait to watch them settle in and become part of the Little Kooka Farm family.

Welcome home, Chip and Pepper! 💛🩶

He’s still fighting an infection & has significant swelling but he’s heading in the right direction 😮‍💨 🤞

🥳 Guess who became a permanent resident on Little Kooka Farm today… 🖤 Zebby 🖤

This little weapon came to us when he was only 6 days old and today he became ours forever 🫶

I am a very happy little hobby farmer tonight ♥️ Our beautiful life has become brighter because of this gorgeous boy 🙏

Thinking about adopting hens? 🥹

Here’s why rescue hens are some of the most rewarding animals you could ever welcome into your family.

When hens first leave the egg industry, many arrive frightened, fragile, and unsure of the world around them. Some have never stood on grass before. Some have never felt sunshine on their backs or dust bathed in the dirt.

But then something beautiful happens.

They start to heal. 🤎

You watch them discover all the little things they were denied for so long. Scratching in the garden. Sunbathing. Running for treats. Following you around the yard like tiny dinosaurs with huge personalities.

And yes… hens absolutely have personalities.

Some are cheeky.
Some are bossy.
Some are shy little introverts.
Some just want snacks and attention all day long.

They are curious, affectionate, clever, and so full of life once given the chance to truly live.

And by adopting rescue hens, you are not only changing their lives.

You are making space for us to rescue more.

Every adoption means more hens can leave suffering behind and start again in loving homes where they are seen as someone, not something.

If you’ve ever thought about adopting, this is your sign. 🥹

Because watching a rescue hen experience freedom for the first time is something you never forget. 🫶🏻
