Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

The 2026 theme, ‘Living Our Truth’, highlights the importance of storytelling, strong voices, and the sharing of knowledge across generations.

Together, we can celebrate local language and culture as a source of strength, resilience and identity for children.

Thuruna (meaning ‘together’) is situated on the lands of the Barngarla and Nauo peoples. We are deeply grateful for their stewardship of the land on which we live and work.

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week in Australia.

Research shows that attending community events reduces the risk of loneliness and social isolation by 89%. Camps and retreats can be powerful tools for building connection.

There are simple steps we can take:
▪️Invite a friend to join you on a community or church retreat
▪️Create a welcoming arrival experience, with warm faces and clear signage
▪️Allow space for informal social time alongside structured activities
▪️At mealtimes, sit with someone you haven’t talked to before
▪️When you return home, reach out to someone you connected with at camp.

“ANZAC Day is not only about memory, but about formation. As we honour those who served, we are called anew to be people who seek peace, embody compassion, and remain attentive to God’s presence, especially in a troubled world.”
