Today marks 24 years since I started my real estate career within our family business, The Professionals – Haywood & Petersen Real Estate.

My journey began because I was inspired by my father, Carl Petersen, who started his real estate career back in 1980 after purchasing an independent agency in Kingscliff. In 1983, Carl and his late business partner Bob Haywood joined The Professionals Real Estate Group, operating offices in Kingscliff and Murwillumbah.

In 1992, they made the bold decision to sell the Murwillumbah office and move into Banora Point, recognising its huge growth potential at the time — a decision that proved spot on as the area went through a significant building boom.

By 2000, the Kingscliff office was sold and the Coolangatta–Tweed office was purchased, further cementing the family’s presence in the local market.

In 2002, just one week before my 19th birthday, I officially started my career in the Banora Point office. Over the next 17 years, I worked within the family business and spent 11 of those years as a part owner of the Coolangatta -Tweed office — learning firsthand the value of trust, hard work, and just doing the best you can for your clients.

Fast forward to today, I now run a smaller-scale business, working in conjunction with Real Specialists Real Estate. Rather than managing a large team, I choose to dedicate my time and focus to the people who trust me to sell what is, in most cases, their biggest asset — the family home.

This year I'm excited to have my wife Lisa join me in more of a client care based role within the company. Lisa will also be available to provide home styling advice in preparation of getting a property ready for sale.

Grateful for the journey, the lessons, and the clients who have supported me along the way. Here’s to what’s next. 🙏🏡
