The BPC has immediately suspended the building registrations of Unik Constructions Pty Ltd and its nominee director in the interests of the public.

The following domestic and commercial builder registrations are now in effect, pending a show cause process:

• Unik Constructions Pty Ltd – CDB-U 59675, CCB-L 75296
• Pratheepan Saravanapavan – DB-U 37125, CB-L 37686

The company and director also face a combined $230,000 in fines.

Unik Constructions failed to comply with the BPC’s orders to fix defective building work at sites across Bayswater, Carrum Downs, Croydon, Mitcham and Nunawading.

BPC inspectors found a record number of defects at the Carrum Downs site where seven townhouses were under construction.

Unik Constructions and Saravanapavan have the right to appeal the immediate suspension at VCAT.

All pools capable of holding more than 30cm of water must have a compliant safety barrier – regardless of whether children live at the property.

Pool owners are legally responsible for ensuring a barrier’s effective operation at all times.

This means it must be maintained in between the required four-yearly pool inspections and lodging a new compliance certificate with council.

Chances are most swimming pool barrier certificates are closing in on 4 years since first registration with Council.
