Create Retreats

Create Retreats Create Retreats own two country properties especially made for crafting, girls weekends and families

Create @ Warburton provides a special place to get away from the rush of city life. Look at the views of Mt Victoria, enjoy the parrots on the deck or just sit next to the fire. Walkers and bike riders can tackle the Warburton trail, mountain bike tracks or Mt Donna Buang. There are 2 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms in the retreat which have been refurbished in a very comfortable and eclectic manner! Cre

ate@Harcourt is in the centre of Harcourt just 5 minutes from Castlemaine. The 5 bedroom Mt Gambier stone house has been lovingly refurbished. The retreat is located within very short distance of two excellent cafes. Both of our retreats have been designed to cater for crafting retreats. Both have a huge crafting table with inbuilt power points and excellent lighting in the crafting rooms. Cutting tables and irons and ironing boards are provided for patch workers and garment makers.

I played with something new 🄳

For a while, I’ve had some Art Gallery FabricsĀ® - AGF binding that I purchased from Dee . This Verysnugglyquiltprogram top seemed the perfect match for it!

There are 2 designs to choose from in each fabric. I loved that the design I chose had a different design on each side of the binding. (The alternative to the one I chose here was a funky grey/white stripe which was the same on the front and back).

Be careful when joining to make sure the patterns flow into each other. I had some stitch ripper action happening.

I 🄰 the end result. I have a few other fabrics in this range that I will be trying out.

P.S the flannelette backing came from The Fabric ReStore by Creative Community Space - have you been there yet?

Recently we had a ā€œsew inā€ for Verysnugglyquiltprogram at Create@Harcourt. Lots of sewing, laughing, eating and sharing techniques!
Stunned by the gorgeous star quilts coming through.

Let’s do it again soon!

Thanks Diane Ross Andrea Medwin Elaine and S.

P.S. I’ve just realised that the cat šŸˆā€ā¬› quilt is upside down!

These cushion covers are from my experimental ā€œfelted woollen jumperā€ phase about 10 years ago. These were made using the bands that I cut off and small pieces left over from other projects. Construction technique varied from hand sewing ( time consuming but fun )to zig zag on the machine ( quite hard actually) to random free motion sewing ( in an effort to speed things up). Often embellished with hand sewing after. Closures generally imperfect use of buttons. Button holes can just be cut in felted woollen jumper- just make sure you don’t make them too big - they stretch.

Fun projects to make and they have just made it back into the couch in our living room. They prob need to be de pilled.
Some similar cushion covers made about the same time can be found in both of the retreats.

To be honest, the phase continues though I am in holding mode not accumulation. I have had plans to make some vests with larger pieces. Perhaps that project will come to fruition this winter?

This group of lovely women blow me away. They have been coming to Create@Warburton for as long as I can remember. This year each of them made a centre block. These were then passed to the other members of the group, each adding a row to make a medallion quilt. All personalised and in tune with the original block.
The finished quilt was presented to the maker of the central block on retreat this year. What a tribe. A gorgeous connection and a lifelong memory of connection and friendship through crafting.
Thank you so much for telling me this story and allowing me to share it. 😘 Tanya Brock
