Austopia Homes and Properties is an investigation and non-formal education project located on various properties in Australia, especially Queensland. Our vision is to live a healthy and ecologically responsible life working in harmony with nature and off-grid. For that purpose we put effort in to close the eco-cycles using solar energy, growing food, protecting the soil of erosion, having a vegetarian diet using low-tech dispositives and by applying reduce-reuse-recycle principles. Electricity is provided by solar panels and parabolic solar panels, a nearby water source provides water for daily use and natural water treatments are used for waste water. With an average of around 50 planned inhabitants per property, it is a place of different creative projects that realise sustainable life and living with a focus on maintaining healthy selves, bodies, relationships and relationships with nature and this planet. Austopia was first conceived in 2021 with the aim of supporting people to have a safe, healthy space to escape the dramas of Covid 19 and has developed other aims such as “To realize, demonstrate and communicate appropriate, low-tech solutions that support a low-impact lifestyle“. Many of the properties are farms which feature farmland for growing crops, vegetables, orchards and livestock and some of these have large farmland restoration projects incorporated. Some of the properties are old farms that have been allowed to restore to a full natural balance that also incorporate low impact food growing projects. Membership & Visitors

Austopia Properties is a vision of living as an Intentiontional Community, there are over 45 permanent residents on the alliance of homes and properties. There are around 20-25 people living and working at the various Austopia Homes and Properties. Austopia Volunteers stay on average one month and make a contribution of time, care and effort, Austopia longevity and volunteers and interns stay on average between 3-6 months and department coordinators between 6 months and 1 year. Staff and volunteers share responsibility for cooking and cleaning during the week. We spend one day a week working together in community, which is divided between the weekly meeting (using sociocracy) and community activity. Austopia Homes and Properties is divided into 8 departments:

Each department has a coordinator to manage the work, assisted by assistants. Volunteers have the opportunity to experience and work in each department during their stay.
