2nd day training Honey to stand in the halter and it was a huge success! She absolutely melts for scratches all over her body — especially her hindquarters and under her chin. Such a good girl. She’s trying so hard and doing an amazing job 🐮✨
A gentle note for anyone who comes to visit the girls:
Please don’t go straight for their head, especially the top of their head. Highlands can’t see well directly in front of them and their long fringe can block their vision — suddenly reaching in can give them a fright.
👉 Getting low, standing slightly to the side, and letting them see you works best.
A few Highland cow facts that help explain why:
• Their long fringe (called a dossan) helps protect their eyes from wind, rain and sun — but it also limits forward vision
• They rely heavily on calm body language and slow movements to feel safe
• Scratching spots like under the chin, along the neck, or the hindquarters helps build trust
• They’re naturally gentle but very sensitive — confidence grows with patience, not force
Kind, slow, and respectful always wins with these fluffy souls 🤎
Honey is well on her way to being the ultimate cuddle cow 🐂💛
