It's National Stroke Week and a good time to remember the signs of stroke - F.A.S.T. (FACE drooped, ARMS can't be raised, SPEECH slurred or confused, TIME is critical ring 000!).
If you or someone you know experiences the signs of stroke, no matter how long they last, call triple zero (000) immediately.

Walk, Swim, Dance ... Across the World

For the past three months as a part of the 'Walk, Swim Dance ... Across the World Competition', Hometown community teams across Australia have been busy exercising daily and keeping a tally of the steps they take.

Community groups embraced this competition with gusto, with people walking, doing aqua aerobics and even rock n roll classes to build up steps.

At the end of the three months, we could see which community group took the greatest number of steps and whether we came close to our goal of walking around the world.

The results are:

1st place
Edgewalkers from Edgewater, Qld, who walked 22,540,300 steps

2nd place
Sunrise Strutters from Hunter, NSW, who walked 21,216,964 steps

3rd place
Grevillea Gallopers from NSW North Coast walked 16,637,796 steps
*A third place award was introduced this year in recognition of the massive increase in interest in this event.

The Hometown communities completed a whopping total of 91,466 kms (120,003,007 steps) - more than twice as many kms as the circumference of the earth (40, 075 kms)!
