Highland coat colours are red, yellow, black, white, dun and silver dun (brindle is also an official colour but could be classified more as a pattern).

Coat colour can change significantly from birth to maturity as an adult. Black and dun have the most noticeable changes, however even red and yellow can alter.

A closer look at SILVER DUN versus WHITE.

Neroli, on the left in the main photo, is a 14 month old silver dun heifer. Note her dark nose. She has dark hooves and a dark tongue. At birth she was a very light grey colour (see photo with her dam who is yellow, her sire is dun).

Oxford is on the right, 4 months old, he is white. See his pink nose, pink around his eyes and light hooves. He has a pink tongue. His coat is pure white (dam is dun, sire is white).

These two are firm friends and are often together in the paddock.

Jupiter is a lizard with plenty of attitude and is enjoying the sunny days when he can spend time out of his heated enclosure. The dog beds are his favourite spots.

Warm weather = highland moulting season!

All of our highlands adore being brushed, especially when they are losing their winter coats (Highlands have a unique double-layer coat which protects them from cold and rainy weather). They happily stand to be brushed and don't mind how rough you do it! We use Sullivan's blunt tooth combs.

We collect all the hair from the combs/brushes and don't leave it in the paddock in case it is ingested.

They look glorious in the late afternoon setting sun.

The current two-legged flock at Lalirra Yellingbo. Eleven hens of various breeds and ages plus one Wheaten Maran Rooster.

Alpaca cria weaning now complete.

The cria had 7 days of gradual weaning - apart from their mums during the day and reunited in the evening. On day 8, all mums and cria were health checked and weighed and then separated into different groups.

The cria are with the yearlings (cria from last year) and some older "aunties". The mums are with the remainder of the female herd.

All are very settled in their new groups and doing well.
