Ahmad Wadud’s 1 hour with Mohammadpur Police Station
A robbery incident occurred with me in Mohammadpur at around 11 pm today. The robbers took my mobile phone and some money along with my wallet. They hit me with a machete. Fortunately, the injury was not serious. My wife was with me. She was safe as she was a little far away.
The distance from the scene to Mohammadpur Police Station is 3 minutes. My wife and I went to the police station within 5 minutes of the incident. I went straight to the duty officer's room and told him that I was robbed at the intersection of three streets 5 minutes ago. They told me to wait a moment. I'll see.
The duty officer's name is SI Jasim. Next to him, a policeman in white is writing another person's complaint on a piece of paper. The policeman in white points his finger at me and says fiercely: Button up your shirt. I immediately noticed that one of my buttons had come off when the robbers hit me. Although I was hurt by the officer's words, I apologized and buttoned it without any trouble. Then he asked me to button all my buttons. At that time, only my tie button, that is, the button at the very neck, was open, which we usually never wear. I said, please take my complaint.
They said, there is no one to write the complaint. I told them, I will write it myself. Give me a piece of paper. After a few minutes, they gave me a white piece of paper. I requested for a pen. The officer said, we do not have an extra pen. Although there were many pens lying there.
However, my wife found a pen in her bag and gave me one. I wrote my complaint with it. The duty officer did not give me any copy of my complaint. He only gave me a phone number and said, this is ASI Anarul's number. He is busy at Navodaya Housing now. You can talk to him on the phone.
I then politely told him, I think if we go to the spot now, we will find them. Please tell someone who can go there with us now.
SI Jasim was very annoyed by my words and said, it is not possible. No one else can go to that area except him. This is his area. You leave now. You will not find the kidnappers there.
I said, I think they are still there. However, SI Jasim said, don't you have any common sense? Will the kidnapper be sitting for you and me? I still requested him, since it is nearby, to consider the matter once.
I left there and went to the OC's room. OC Iftekhar Hasan was in a white dress. I told him about the kidnapping incident. He said, I use this cheap phone even though I am the OC, if you walk around with such an expensive phone, you will definitely get robbed!
I did not answer his words. I requested him to take some action regarding my kidnapping right away. He contacted the aforementioned ASI Anarul and asked me to wait for him at the bus stand intersection.
I visited three points including the bus stand and met ASI Anarul. There were seven or eight other policemen with him. Anarul Sahib heard me and said, let's go to the spot. I went to the spot with him in a car. About 40 minutes had passed by now. However, after going to the spot, I saw the kidnappers sitting there. Although I showed them from a distance, ASI Anarul did not go there and went to another place a little further away and talked to some people. When he returned after a couple of minutes, I showed ASI Anarul the terrorists again. However, Anarul did not go there and stood with his hands on his waist. At that time, the terrorists also saw me and the police and slowly started moving away from the spot. I looked at ASI Anarul in surprise!
After they left, ASI Anarul told me, they will not be found now. We will come here late at night and conduct a raid. You all go home now.
