Yonkers uncovered a river buried beneath downtown for nearly a century, turning forgotten pavement into a living park for people and wildlife. 🌿🐟💧

In downtown Yonkers, New York, the Saw Mill River had spent about 90 years hidden beneath pavement. In 2011, part of the river was brought back into the open, creating 13,775 square feet of aquatic habitat with freshwater and tidal pools. The restored river became the centerpiece of Van der Donck Park, giving residents a green public space beside flowing water while wildlife, including American eels, returned to the river.

I was having a good time watching sunset and then this rain started falling a couple ridges away and the mountain air got even clearer and started smelling really fresh and clean and the temp dropped 10-20 degrees and my good time was now a great time.
