Irina from Paris spent a week in Vista apartment: "We usually travel independently, and this trip was no exception. We rented a car and looked for an apartment rather than a hotel. A lot of people on our flight were heading to large resorts, and during the week we ended up passing through a few of them ourselves. Honestly, that only made us happier with our choice.
For the way we like to travel, Balchik was perfect. It is a small, quiet town with its own beach, a lovely seafront promenade, very good restaurants, supermarkets and everything you need without feeling overly touristy. And if you have a car, it is an excellent base for exploring the coast. We went north, close to the Romanian border, and also travelled south, including towards Nessebar.
The apartment is up on the hill, so it is peaceful and the views are beautiful. You can see the sea and the surrounding landscape from the terraces, but you are still close enough to walk down into town. We walked to the seafront, restaurants and shops several times, so there is no need to take the car every time you want to go somewhere in Balchik.
The apartment itself was spotless when we arrived. It is spacious, comfortable and has everything you actually need for a proper stay, not just the bare minimum you sometimes find in holiday rentals. The washer-dryer was especially useful and, in our experience, quite rare in an Airbnb.
There are also three terraces, which we loved. Each bedroom has its own terrace, plus there is a larger shared one, and all of them have a view. We were travelling together but using both bedrooms, and it was really nice to have enough space for everyone to do their own thing without constantly being in the same room.
Although we didn’t get the chance to meet our host in person, as she was arriving in Bulgaria just as we were leaving, we had a great contact with her throughout our stay. She is extremely friendly and gave us lots of recommendations, and some of them became highlights of the trip.
Having a rental car and following her suggestions meant that we saw a very different side of the Bulgarian coast. We found small local places and beaches that we would never have discovered by simply following the usual tourist routes. Some required a short walk to reach, but once there, you had the kind of beautiful beach and scenery people pay resort prices for, except it was free, quiet and sometimes almost empty.
That was exactly what we wanted from this trip. The big resorts we saw felt a little like amusement parks for adults: expensive, self-contained and quite disconnected from the places around them. Staying in Balchik gave us the opposite experience. We could explore, eat in local places, drive wherever we wanted and then come back to a quiet apartment with a fantastic sea view.
We would happily stay here again. The apartment is beautiful, very clean, well located and comfortable, the views are wonderful, and the host made our stay even better with all her advice. If you are thinking about booking it, go for it. We had a fantastic time.
