The Neighbourhood
Bansko is a mediaeval town nestled in the basin of the Pirin National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. It's a charming town that has beautiful architecture, churches and Mehanas (taverns). The town is steeped in history, but has adapted well to the development of a ski and summer resort. The new town (ski area) is lively, fun and varied. Bansko is perfect for partying with friends or as a sophisticated retreat for couples. There are clubs, bars, restaurants, spas, an ice rink and bowling alley for family entertainment. Skiing in Bansko is varied. Ideal for beginners and children (there is a safe sectioned ski kindergarten) as well as advanced skiers and snow boarders. There are 70km of pisted runs in Bansko and the highest point is 2,800m at the top of Todorka. Bansko is a snow-sure resort and the winter season runs from mid-December to mid-April. All lifts, gondolas and chairs are less than 10 years old and there are plenty of places on the mountain for lunch and refreshments. Summer in Bansko is busy too. The National Park attracts a lot of adventure walkers, fishing, horse riding, golf and several hotels open their spas and swimming pools. Approx 40 minutes away you can catch your own trout and have it cooked for lunch at the Trout Farm near Belitsa, and visit the former 'Dancing Bears' (rescued!) in the nearby Bear Sanctuary. In August every year, Bansko hosts a Jazz Festival and there are numerous other activities and festivals. Getting Around
Sofia is the nearest airport, 156kms from Bansko. The transfer time is 2 - 2.5 hrs. There are various companies that organise transfers or a car can be hired from Sofia Airport. Other Things to Note
A car, whilst useful is not a necessity. The complex is an approximate 20 minute walk to the gondola station, and about the same to the 'old' town of Bansko. Although this is not a difficult walk there is a hill and it it poorly lit at night. Ski equipment can be hired near the gondola and stored there overnight - so no need to think about carrying equipment back to the apartment every day.
