The Beauty Of Boruca Masks
These gorgeous intricately carved masks are handcrafted by Boruca, an indigenous Costa Rican. These ornate wooden masks are the pride of the Boruca people, the result of centuries of traditional mask-making. They come in different varieties and styles, and the skill of making them is passed down over many generations and centuries. Artistic representations of local plants and wildlife. On these masks you’ll often spot parrots and trees, and at the bottom an old man’s face surrounded by flora and fauna. These ecological masks are crafted mostly from balsa, like the diablo masks, but also sometimes from tropical cedar wood.

Peccaries are adorable little wild pigs found in the deciduous dry forest, tropical rainforests, low-lying shrub forests, and agricultural areas in Costa Rica. They are quite resourceful and adaptable and live in herds of between three and 30 other peccaries, maintaining a hierarchical structure within their herd. Peccaries are also very vocal and can get aggressive in disputes over water.
