Botswana Housing Corporation The Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) is a Government owned Property Development Parastatal Corporation under the Ministry of Water and Human Settlement.

The Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) is a parastatal corporation solely owned by the Botswana Government. It was established by an Act of Parliament being the Botswana Housing Corporation Act (CAP 74:030 of 1970 and started operations in February 1971. The mandate of the BHC as stipulated by the Act and its subsequent amendments is a follows:

a. to provide for the housing, office and other bui

lding needs of the Government and local authorities,
b. to provide for, and to assist and to make arrangements for other persons to meet the requirements of paragraph (a) above and;
c. to undertake and carry out, and to make arrangements for other persons to undertake and carry out building schemes in Botswana.

A delegation from Zimbabweโ€™s Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities has praised the Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) after a benchmarking tour of housing projects in Gaborone and Palapye.

Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) CEO Joey Shumbamhini commended Botswanaโ€™s Bonno housing initiative, describing it as proof that affordable housing requires strong government intervention. He said Zimbabwe hopes to replicate BHCโ€™s project models and modern designs.

Both countries also agreed to launch engineering skills exchange programmes to strengthen regional expertise and improve project delivery.

The Zimbabwean delegation urged Botswana to fast-track green technologies in housing developments, highlighting Zimbabweโ€™s policy that makes solar water heating systems mandatory for all new building approvals.

BHC CEO Sekgele Ramahobo confirmed that the corporation is prioritizing green technology to achieve long-term environmental and economic sustainability.

At the same time, BHC is shifting toward a self-funding operational model to expand its housing portfolio and reach more Batswana.

The visit marks a growing regional partnership focused on affordable, sustainable, and future-ready housing solutions.
