PRESS RELEASE

NEW CONTROLLED PRICES FOR LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LPG)

The Supplies Control Unit (SCU) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries is hereby informing the general public that effective Tuesday, September 15th, 2026,
new controlled prices will be introduced for the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). This change now reflects the sale by wholesale volume and retail sale by volume in both urban and rural
areas.

These prices reflect an increase of BZ $ 0.17 per gallon for the current shipment, resulting primarily from an increase in the acquisition price.

The general public is advised that the prices established for imported LPG are based on the mixtures of 70:30 (Propane: Butane) only as per requirement of the Belize National Standard
Specification for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) BZS 21:2012. For further information, kindly contact the Supplies Control Unit at 822-2241/42, 223-2845 or via email [email protected].

PRESS RELEASE

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Belmopan, September 14, 2026.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade registers its strongest protest over an incident that occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in which a significant deployment of Guatemalan military and civilian vessels obstructed a group of Belizean nationals from completing their customary passage around Sarstoon Island.

The Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV), escorted by the Belize Defence Force (BDF) and the Belize Coast Guard, departed Punta Gorda for their annual journey to circle Sarstoon Island — a passage the group has undertaken for nearly two decades. Approximately eighteen (18) Guatemalan vessels, comprising both military and civilian craft, were present in Belizean waters within the immediate vicinity of the island.

The Foreign Ministry wishes to be unequivocal: the Sarstoon River constitutes part of the international boundary between Belize and Guatemala, as established under the 1859 Boundary Treaty between Great Britain and Guatemala, with the boundary line running along the mid-channel of the river. Sarstoon Island lies within Belizean sovereign territory, and the treaty guarantees that the channels of the river remain equally free and open to the vessels of both countries. Guatemala's deployment of a disproportionate flotilla in Belizean waters in violation of Belize’s sovereignty and to obstruct the lawful passage of unarmed Belizean nationals is inconsistent with these obligations. Furthermore, the presence of Guatemalan civilians within the military deployment represents an unwelcome escalation in an already sensitive border area.

The Ministry has dispatched a Note Verbale to the Ministry of External Affairs of Guatemala protesting in the strongest terms the aforementioned incident of September 10, 2026. The Ministry is also formally notifying Belize's international partners and friends, as well as the Organization of American States (OAS), of this incident and its implications for regional stability.

Furthermore, the Ministry will seek an explanation of the aggressive behaviour of the Guatemalan military from the Ambassador of Guatemala to Belize. A bilateral meeting will also be sought between Prime Minister Briceño and President Arévalo next week on the margins of the UN General Assembly.

Belize reaffirms its full confidence in the International Court of Justice process as the appropriate mechanism for the final resolution of Guatemala’s territorial, insular, and maritime claim, and calls on the Government of Guatemala to refrain from actions on the ground that prejudge the outcome of that process or place civilians and security personnel at unnecessary risk.

The Ministry has instructed the Office of the Agent to consult Belize’s international legal team to ensure that these acts are appropriately referred to at the hearings before the Court and that the Court is apprised of these and any acts of a similar nature.

The Government of Belize commends the professionalism and restraint exercised by members of the BDF and the Belize Coast Guard in managing this encounter and reassures the Belizean public that it will continue to take all necessary and appropriate diplomatic measures to safeguard Belize's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

PRESS RELEASE

Belize Delegation Undertakes Knowledge Exchange Visit to Guyana

Belmopan, September 11, 2026.

A delegation from the Government of Belize undertook a three-day Knowledge Exchange visit to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana from September 8 to 10, 2026, to strengthen knowledge and capacity in public-sector management, digital transformation, procurement, and project cycle management.

The Knowledge Exchange was coordinated by the High Commission of Belize in Guyana and provided Belizean officials an opportunity to engage with their Guyanese counterparts, examine institutional practices, and learn from digital tools and systems that support the Government of Guyana in service delivery, project implementation, and oversight.

The delegation comprised representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Investment, Economic Transformation, Civil Aviation, and E-Governance, including Mr. Carlos Pol, Chief Executive Officer, Economic Transformation; Mr. Jose Urbina, Chief Executive Officer, E-Governance; Mrs. Raquel Guerra, Director of Projects, Ministry of Finance; Ms. Karlene McSweaney, Acting Director, Climate Finance Unit (European Union and Other Grants); and Ms. Fayne Nicasio, Senior Economist, Policy and Planning Unit, both from the Ministry of Economic Transformation. Discussions focused on practical experiences, institutional arrangements, lessons learned, and approaches that may be adapted to the Belizean context.

Priority areas included project monitoring and oversight, project cycle management, public procurement and e-Procurement, digital identification (E-ID), and digitalisation through the National Digital Management Authority. During the visit, discussions covered Guyana’s project monitoring and oversight systems, including digital platforms used to track Government projects. The delegation also examined the operations and tools used for public sector investment programme planning, management and monitoring, as well as the legislative framework and institutional arrangements for procurement, procurement reforms, and the country’s e-Procurement system.

The delegation also learned from Guyana’s experience with E-ID and digital Government services, including the legislative and institutional framework supporting digital transformation. The team gained further knowledge in this area through presentations on the systems and innovations developed to enhance service delivery in health, public safety and law enforcement, and agriculture.

CEO Pol noted that the Knowledge Exchange was an important opportunity for Belize to learn from Guyana’s experience and identify practical approaches that can support Belize’s development priorities. “Knowledge sharing among countries in the region allows us to learn from practical experiences, including both successes and challenges. This exchange will help Belize identify approaches that can strengthen project management, procurement, digital transformation, and overall public-sector effectiveness.”

CEO Urbina emphasized the importance of digital innovation in transforming how Government delivers services and engages with citizens. “Digital transformation is no longer simply about introducing technology; it is about rethinking how Government operates and how citizens access public services. Guyana’s experience provides valuable lessons on using digital platforms, data, and innovation to create more connected, efficient, and citizen-centered Government services. We look forward to identifying solutions that can be adapted to Belize’s own digital transformation agenda.”

The visit is expected to further strengthen collaboration through opportunities for continued technical cooperation and knowledge sharing in areas of mutual interest. Areas already identified include technical support in assessing Belize’s digitalisation efforts and providing recommendations for improving access to capacity-building programmes for healthcare workers, and further engagement on PSIP management and oversight and e-procurement.

The Government of Belize thanks the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, the High Commission of Belize in Guyana, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for facilitating the Knowledge Exchange and supporting continued regional cooperation.
