Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced tighter mortgage rules.
The first change is how long you can amortise a mortgage for. In the past, the longest amortisation was 35 years, now if you are putting less than 20% down (therefore the mortgage must be insured ex: CMHC) its 30 years.
The second change is in regards to re-financing. You can now only re-finance up to 85% of the home’s value.

Interest rates are hovering around 3.69% fixed for 5 years, up .1 from last week.
