The Bank of Canada announced today that it is keeping its key interest rate at 2.25%.

So what does that actually mean?

In simple terms, the Bank is stuck between two competing problems:

📈 Inflation is still running higher than they would like, making everyday life more expensive.

📉 At the same time, Canada’s economy is showing signs of weakness, and higher interest rates can slow things down even more.

Adding to the uncertainty are rising oil prices linked to conflict in the Middle East and ongoing trade tensions with the United States.

The good news? Canada added 88,000 jobs in May, and the Bank believes economic growth should pick up later this year.

The bad news? Inflation is still hovering around 3%, which means the Bank isn’t ready to lower rates just yet.

For now, they’re taking a “wait and see” approach and keeping rates exactly where they are.

What this means for homeowners, buyers, and anyone with a variable-rate mortgage: no immediate changes, but the Bank will continue watching inflation, jobs, and the economy closely before making its next move.

The economy isn’t booming, but according to the Bank of Canada, it isn’t in a recession either.

For now, patience remains the strategy.

Scotland is heading back to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years.

That number hit me harder than I expected because 28 years ago, I was in Paris watching Scotland play. It feels like yesterday, but somehow nearly three decades have slipped by.

Life has a funny way of doing that. We get caught up in work, responsibilities, plans, and routines. We always think there will be more time. Then a moment comes along that makes you look back and realize just how quickly the years have passed.

The game, the city, the memories, the people who shared those moments with us — they all become part of our story.

So here’s a reminder to myself as much as anyone else: enjoy the moment you’re in. Take the trip. Watch the game. Make the memory. Call the friend. Have the conversation.
