Why is the basement always the coldest room in the house? 🥶

In many homes, the basement is one of the areas where insulation can make a noticeable difference in everyday comfort.

A closer look at spray foam insulation in action. 👷

These photos are from a recent Spray-Tech jobsite, where our crew applied spray foam throughout the exposed exterior wall cavities.

A quality spray foam installation is about more than simply filling a space. Consistent coverage and proper application depth are important to creating an effective insulation layer and helping reduce unwanted air leakage through the building envelope.

3 signs your attic insulation might not be ready for winter 👀

You don’t have to wait until the first cold day to find out there’s a problem. Here are three signs to watch for:

1️⃣ Your upstairs is always too hot or too cold

If your upstairs is noticeably harder to keep comfortable than the rest of your home, your attic insulation could be part of the problem. Inconsistent or inadequate coverage can make it harder to maintain even temperatures throughout your home.

2️⃣ Your heating bills seem too high

Heat rises, and when your attic isn’t properly insulated and sealed, more of that heat can escape. That means your heating system has to work harder to maintain the temperature you want — and you could be paying to heat your attic instead of your home.

3️⃣ You notice drafts or cold spots

Cold spots around upper-floor rooms and ceilings can point to air leakage or gaps in insulation. Those small gaps can make a much bigger difference once temperatures start dropping.

Late summer and early fall are a great time to address these issues before heating season begins.
