Morgan d’Entremont knows first-hand how a career in the skilled trades can open doors.

A journeyperson welder, Morgan now works as maintenance manager for two long-term care facilities, where her skills help keep residents, staff and buildings safe.

“Women need opportunities to learn, gain experience and advance based on our abilities and strengths in the skilled trades,” says Morgan. "I’d like young women to grow up seeing the trades as simply another career available to them - not as a man’s career they are trying to break into.”

During Gender Equality Week, Morgan’s story is a reminder that women belong in the skilled trades and that these rewarding careers can lead to leadership, confidence and new opportunities.

They vanished for years — now they're returning. Nova Scotia's bat populations, decimated by white-nose syndrome over the past decade, are showing signs of a slow recovery, with more bats being spotted at known roosting sites across the province this year. The disease wiped out the vast majority of some colonies after it was first detected in the region. Researchers caution the rebound is still fragile and numbers remain far below historic levels, but call the trend encouraging. A quiet comeback, one bat at a time.
