Good news for buyers! 🎉
The Bank of Canada has just announced it’s holding the key interest rate at 2.25%, where it’s been since October 2025. If rates increase at any time in 2026 - home prices are likely to increase also - now could be a great time to start (or get serious about) your home search.
If you’re looking for a patient and professional Realtor - who is also a local full-time White Laker - to guide you every step of the way, I’d love to help.
📞 DM me, or call/text me at 613-620-1333 and let’s start looking!

As a full-time local Realtor (aka: psychologist/therapist/researcher extraordinaire/strong negotiator!), I try very hard to guard my "me time" - I'm available mornings after 9am and evenings up to 8pm (usually 7 days per week)...not always possible when offers are in play, but I'm trying hard to put me first!!

Please DM or call me if you're thinking about buying and/or selling real estate in the Ottawa or Ottawa Valley to chat - maybe it's the right time for you, maybe it isn't...let's talk it through and then you can decide - no pressure and at no cost to you for an evaluation and/or recommendation!

On a cold winter’s night, little Miss Jo-Jo is cozy and relaxed under a blanket with her toy crocodile and sleeping on her dog mama!! It’s so hard to believe that she turns 8 in just a few days…where did that time go??!! We moved to White Lake almost 7 years ago, so she’s definitely more of a country dog now. Life is better with a dog!!

Now that the holiday decorations are coming down, you have the perfect opportunity to start preparing your home for sale.

As you pack away those ornaments and lights, take a moment to assess each room with fresh eyes. The post-holiday season is the ideal time to begin decluttering—and it's not just about aesthetics. A less cluttered home actually looks bigger, photographs better, and can sell for more money.

Here's a simple tip: Use the "box method" as you take down decorations. Set up three boxes in each room—Keep, Donate, and Store. As you remove holiday items, sort through other belongings too. Clear off countertops, thin out closets by at least one-third, and remove excess furniture that makes rooms feel cramped.

Buyers need to envision themselves in your space, and that's much easier when they're not distracted by personal items or visual clutter. Studies show that staged, decluttered homes can sell for 5-10% more than comparable cluttered properties.

Start now, and by the time spring market hits, your home will be show-ready and positioned to attract top dollar.

After two years of waiting, buyers are slowly re-entering the market. Here's what you need to know about 2026:

The Good News:
✅ Interest rates stabilizing (rate cuts mostly behind us)
✅ Sales expected to grow 7–8% (509,000 transactions forecast)
✅ More inventory = more choices and less competition
✅ Calmer market—no more pandemic-style bidding wars

The Reality Check:
⚠️ Rates won't return to 2020–2021 levels
⚠️ Prices expected to rise modestly in most markets
⚠️ Regional differences matter more than ever (Alberta/Quebec growing, Toronto/Vancouver flat)
⚠️ First-time buyers still face steep barriers in major metros

Bottom line: The market is normalizing, not collapsing. If you've been holding out for perfect conditions, they may never come. Instead, focus on preparation—strengthening credit, building savings, getting pre-approved, and targeting the right markets.

Success in 2026 isn't about timing the market perfectly. It's about being ready when the right opportunity appears.

Mortgage rates are expected to stabilize in 2026 as the Bank of Canada's policy nears a plateau. CREA and other forecasters see rates holding relatively steady rather than dropping dramatically. 📉

What this means for the market:

📍 Rate cuts are largely behind us
📍 Borrowing costs should remain stable throughout 2026
📍 Affordability improvements will come gradually through income growth
📍 Waiting for a return to 2020–2021 rates is increasingly unrealistic

For buyers planning purchases in 2026, rate stability matters more than rate relief. The market is adjusting to a higher-rate baseline, and participants must plan accordingly.

Will 2026 be the year Canadian buyers stop waiting? After a sluggish 2025, CREA forecasts roughly 509,000 transactions in 2026—about 7–8% growth year over year. The Canadian market appears positioned for gradual normalization rather than a sharp recovery. 📊

Here's what most experts agree on:

✅ Interest rates are stabilizing as Bank of Canada policy nears a plateau
✅ Inventory will improve modestly, giving buyers more options
✅ Home prices will show regional variation—growth in Alberta and Quebec, flat in Toronto and Vancouver
✅ The market is thawing, returning to more sustainable conditions

Whether you're planning to buy, sell, or simply understand your home equity position, the fundamentals matter more than the forecasts.
