Sometimes you need to step away from the everyday hustle to appreciate the bigger picture.

Standing here reminded me that real estate is a lot like the view behind me; perspective matters.

🏡 Barrie’s August housing numbers are in!

Sales and new listings both declined from July, while the average price held steady at $667,703. Homes are also taking longer to sell, with average days on market rising to 58 days.

The big number? A 33.5% sales-to-new-listing ratio — a clear sign that Barrie remains firmly in a strong buyer’s market.

For buyers, there may be more room to negotiate. For sellers, pricing and strategy matter more than ever.

Here's a Buy Canadian grocery info you can save on your phone. It is focused on products you’re reasonably likely to encounter in Canadian grocery stores.

One important distinction: Canadian-owned, made in Canada, and made in Canada by a foreign-owned company are different things. Packaging can also change, so when buying Canadian is the priority, check the label for “Product of Canada” or “Made in Canada.”

Many of these swaps are supported by current Canadian-product guides; for example, Dare, Nature's Path, Ganong and Purdys are identified as Canadian alternatives in grocery categories, while current made-in-Canada guides identify products such as Arctic Gardens, Rogers Foods and Kicking Horse as manufactured or processed in Canada.

🇨🇦 My easiest 15 swaps for an Ontario grocery trip

If you don't want to scrutinize every item in the store, I'd start with these:
- Lay's → Covered Bridge/Hardbite; Cheetos → Hawkins Cheezies;
- Oreo → Dare; General Mills → Nature's Path;
- Ben & Jerry's → Chapman's;
- Hershey's → Ganong/Purdys;
- Starbucks → Kicking Horse/Balzac's;
- Tropicana → SunRype; Campbell's → Sprague Foods;
- U.S. mustard → Kozlik's;
- Tyson → Maple Lodge Farms;
- frozen fries → McCain/Cavendish;
- U.S. flour → Rogers Foods;
- Clorox → Nature Clean;
- Colgate → Green Beaver.

Several of these are also specifically identified as Canadian alternatives by current Canadian-buying resources.

For milk, cheese, butter, yogurt and other dairy, also look for the Blue Cow logo. It's a useful indicator that the product is made with 100% Canadian milk and milk ingredients.
