A great piece of advice for all you home owners!

After Wednesday, it looks like overnight temperatures will be staying well above zero. I know some people have their hose taps turned on already, and some are still waiting.

In the post there is a picture of a frost free faucet which had a hose left on. The water was unable to drain, which froze and split the copper pipe. The mechanism which opens and closes is to the left of the break - you don't find out these have burst until the water is turned back on.

Our advice is have a helper inside while you work outside. That way if the pipe has burst, they can turn the water back off quickly to minimize damage. If you don't have a helper, make sure you check inside after you have the outside tap turned on.
