Good information on the different types of furnace filters! Whatever the type of filter, making sure it is changed regularly and clean will increase the longevity of your furnace.
A Guide to Choosing & Changing Furnace Air Filters
Furnace air filters are important in keeping your air clean and fresh throughout the home.
Shape is always set by the size of the housing installed with the furnace. The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating is the filtration quality of the filter. The higher a MERV rating, the higher the number of particles the filter traps.
Pick the filtration quality which is best for your family. This can be especially important for family members with allergies.
MERV 1 β 4: Useful for filtering dust, pollen and carpet fibers.
MERV 5 β 8: Captures animal dander, mould spores and dust mites.
MERV 9 β 12: Highly effective filters capable of filtering auto emissions and lead dust.
MERV 13- 16: Can remove smoke, microscopic allergens and even viruses and bacteria from indoor air.
Change your filters regularly, itβs recommended every 3 months or even sooner if pets live in the home.
