Bonavista Living & Bonavista Creative

Bonavista Living & Bonavista Creative Restore and preserve the existing built heritage while creating a more livable community for all.

Bonavista Living and Bonavista Creative, with varied long term goals will operate in a complimentary fashion to not only restore physical buildings but also work to foster new enterprise to benefit the Bonavista region. Bonavista Living

Bonavista Living has acquired 25 of Bonavista’s residential heritage properties which it will restore and rejuvenate to their original glory. These properties have been chosen for their architectural and historical significance, placement within charming historic neighborhoods, as well as the level of threat they are under. Each property will be completely restored and used as vacation rentals, affordable housing units, and many sold as private homes. Bonavista Living will inject new life into once vacant properties through preservation and redevelopment, thus awakening quaint laneways and fisherman’s footpaths while offering quintessential and authentic outport space. Bonavista Creative

Bonavista Creative’s mission is to foster and promote new and unique businesses that will contribute to the local economy, thereby enhancing the community. Located on the main thoroughfare of Church Street, Bonavista’s downtown core, this operation will offer commercial space for crafts people, artisans, food vendors and many other professional services not currently operating in the area. These spaces will be offered at very competitive rates to minimize risk for new business owners. Bonavista Creative has also recently launched Bonavista Creative Workshop. The workshop brings together a collection of local highly skilled heritage carpenters specializing in wooden window and door construction for both residential and commercial application. Not only will this operation supply Bonavista Living and Bonavista Creative but also will accept private restoration and woodworking projects throughout the province. Through all of these operations, Bonavista Living and Bonavista Creative hopes to enhance the livability of the community and region through filling niche markets from creative enhancement of existing resources. “A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats”, both residents, as well as visitors to this historic community can look to a bright future on the tip of the Bonavista Peninsula. Bonavista Living and the Bonavista Creative Workshop are so pleased to have saved another historic home in our community. Dunn House now starts its next chapter and continues to represent a piece of Bonavista history while creating space for new members of our community.

Message from the owners Kate and Johnny

What a joy it is to welcome this new chapter for Dunn House in Bonavista. This project has been a true labour of love, made possible by so many wonderful people.

We cannot thank John Norman and the incredible team at Bonavista Living enough, along with the many tradespeople and craftsman who helped bring this vision to life.

With a deep respect for the home's heritage character, my husband Johnny and I have found immense joy in restoring, redesigning, and reimagining every aspect of the house.

Countless hours, endless care and extraordinary skill have gone into restoring this property. Every person who worked on Dunn House brought not only their knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship, but also their generosity, passion, and spirit. Together, they have transformed a home that sat dormant for years into a place that feels alive once again. Whilst the work has been arduous at times and we faced many challenges, the team have brought so much lightness, joy and humour to the project and infused it into the house too.

We are deeply grateful for the contributions from the entire crew. This project has given us far more than a home; it has introduced us to a community of remarkable people and we have made cherished friends along the way.

Thank you for helping bring Dunn House back to life. We are so happy to to begin our new chapter here.

Another day, another house move. Only 8 feet today needed at Mouland House. Now there is room for side parking and a front yard with fence. Stay tuned for this restoration in the months to come!

This week we were pleased to have our COO and founding partner John Norman offer a guest lecture to masters students in Halifax. The Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University not only asked for a guest lecture but will be producing a full academic case study on John and his work with Bonavista Living and Bonavista Creative on how business with a strong social lens applied can turn rural communities around through strategic investments and a clear mission.

More progress at Mifflin Cottage. Great work from our carpentry team and a special thanks to the dedication of our newest member, Todd White, installing tile at all hours!

The whole team will have to get a photo together when this one is done. It takes many hands and many skills to bring houses like this back to life.

Two years. Endless vision. One incredible team. 😍 None of this happens without the crew at because their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and shared love for restoring what others would walk away from is the reason Mifflin Cottage (a.k.a The Pigeon House) gets to have a second life. Follow for Mifflin’s journey and share with the dreamer who’d buy the falling-down one too. 😏

Thank you Georgestown on my Mind for getting involved in one of our latest project in Bonavista.
