October 17th is Election Day!

For us, one question deserves to be front and centre:

How can we make housing on Bowen more affordable for the people who live, work, and raise families here?

Ask the candidates about housing.
What solutions do they support?
What actions will they take?
And how will they move those solutions forward?

Because the decisions made by our next Council will help shape who gets to call Bowen home for years to come.

Protecting nature isn’t an afterthought—it’s part of the plan.

On Bowen Island, rezoning proposals are encouraged to protect 50% of a property’s natural environment.

Westside Village has been designed to meet this objective, with half the site remaining dedicated to conservation—preserving mature trees, wildlife habitat, and the natural character of the land.

Thoughtful housing and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. 🌲

As we continue to refine the vision for Westside Village, we’ve updated our site plan to reflect a pocket neighbourhood design—small clusters of homes arranged around shared green spaces.

This shift was inspired by the many benefits of intentional pocket neighbourhoods: stronger connections between neighbours, safer spaces for children to play, and a greater sense of belonging.

Just as importantly, this evolution reflects the conversations we’ve had right here in our own community. We are listening. Community feedback matters, and it continues to influence how this project takes shape.

34 modular homes, one inclusive and vibrant community - that's our goal.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their thoughts, questions, concerns, and ideas with us. We’re building this together.

🌊 Did you know?

Not all wastewater systems are created equal.

The system proposed for Westside Village is designed with long-term environmental responsibility in mind. It’s intended to have no measurable impact on the watershed and requires inspections by certified professionals twice a year to ensure it continues operating exactly as intended.

Many of the systems that raise concern today are older conventional setups installed decades ago — before modern treatment standards, monitoring, and environmental safeguards were in place. In rural communities, aging systems can become problematic when they aren’t regularly maintained or upgraded.

What if the way we build homes mattered just as much as the homes themselves?

With modular construction, there’s an opportunity to reduce impact right from the start. Building in a controlled environment means materials are measured, cut, and used with far more intention—less guesswork, less excess, and far less ending up in the landfill.

📊 Studies show:
• Up to 46% less material waste
• Around 22% lower emissions during construction

Those numbers add up quickly—especially when you zoom out and think about housing at a community scale.

For us, this is part of a bigger picture. Creating homes that feel connected to the land, while being mindful of how they come to life in the first place.

🏡 Did you know?
Density doesn’t have to mean disruption.

There are no direct sightlines from our property into neighbouring homes. Large surrounding lots, existing tree cover, and the way the site sits within the landscape all help create separation—so the presence of a new community doesn’t translate into a significant impact for those nearby.

It’s a reminder that density, when thoughtfully placed, can exist within a rural setting while still preserving privacy, quiet, and the character people value about the area.

Making homeownership more attainable starts with building differently.

Modular construction allows for greater efficiency, shorter timelines, and reduced costs—while still prioritizing thoughtful design and everyday livability.

A small shift in approach, with the potential for real impact.

💰 Did you know?
Affordability can be protected long-term.

Through a covenant on the property, Westside Village could ensure these homes stay attainable for future residents—not just the first buyers.

It’s one way to shift housing from a short-term opportunity to a long-term solution.
