Here is some good news for greater consumer protection when it comes to buying a new home from a builder or seller who are now required by law to be licensed by the Home Construction Regulatory Authority. They must also obtain approval from Tarion for each new home sale and enroll the home in Ontario's new home warranty program.
Licensed builders and sellers must demonstrate that they meet the HCRA's competency requirements and are held to professional standards under the Code of Ethics. Operating without a license is illegal and undermines essential consumer protection measures.
