There’s something special about seeing your home take shape for the first time 🤍🤍🤍

After completing the initial framing, we walked our clients through their future home—room by room, space by space—so they could truly feel it come to life. We gave them the chance to leave their mark… writing well wishes, memories, and little notes right on the studs.

A hidden layer of meaning that stays with the home forever.

It’s these intentional, personal touches that make building your custom home with Shirecrest Homes unique. Your home is more than just construction to us —it’s the beginning of a story.

Refinishing original stairs takes more steps than simply sanding and staining.

These treads were originally fastened from the top with exposed screws. Upon reinstallation we decided to recess the fasteners and add wood plugs. Here, we are installing the plugs and ensuring they are even with the treads. Next step, staining them to match.

Do you notice anything different about the bottom plates of these bearing walls?

Although not required, we use pressure treated studs for the bottom plates of all basement bearing walls.

How many roof trusses will we need to complete this roof?

Roof trusses are an engineered system that are designed to withstand specific parameters such as wind, snow and other loads. They are also designed to incorporate architectural details; this roof has interior raised portions, tray ceilings and false windows.

The truss system also incorporates the following details

✔️blocking
✔️insulation stops
✔️fire stopping
✔️attic access
✔️continuous vapour barrier
✔️roof sheathing

The best part? The house really starts to look like a home when the roof goes on.

How many passes through the planer will this timber need?

We are working on trimming down the back of this reclaimed timber beam; this allows for a flat surface for install while maintaining the character on the other sides.

A custom home means every detail matters — and every decision builds on the next.

Before anything moves forward, we sit down with our clients and walk through each space, reviewing their selections together. From flooring to cabinetry, we look at how every element works within the home as a whole before final sign-off.

This step is about slowing down and making sure everything feels right. The tones, the materials, the transitions between rooms — it all needs to work together.

Once these key selections are confirmed, we move on to the next layer of design like plumbing fixtures and lighting.

Nothing in our process is random. Every piece is thoughtfully considered and hand selected, with our interior design team, as part of our custom approach.

It’s important to consider these things before installing your backsplash:

Before a single tile goes on the wall, there’s planning happening behind the scenes 👇

As installers, our role is more than just setting tile. There’s real math involved in lining everything up properly. We map out the layout before we start — deciding where the first tile goes and calculating where the part tiles will land. The goal? Avoid awkward slivers, uneven cuts, or joints that feel “off.”

Starting point matters.
Symmetry matters.
Balance matters.

Then comes the design side 👇

✔️ Cabinet colour & tone – warm vs cool changes everything
✔️ Countertop movement – bold stone? Maybe a quieter tile. Simple counter? Add personality.
✔️ Grout choice – contrast or blend? This detail can completely shift the look
✔️ Tile layout – stacked, offset, vertical, herringbone… layout = personality
✔️ Lighting – under-cabinet lighting highlights every texture and line
✔️ Where it ends – full height? To the hood? Clean termination at uppers?

The difference? Our designer thinks about all of this for you. We work with our clients to select the right product that will look amazing.
