I brought my book into my local pharmacy today because this story belongs in the spaces where patients are often told to wait, to trust, or to stay quiet. Advocacy starts with being heard.

Around 1910, homes were built in a different economy.
Labour was affordable. Materials like solid brass, carved wood, and hand finished details were standard. Craftsmanship was not a luxury upgrade.
It was simply how things were done.
Door hardware was cast and engraved. Trim had intention. Even ordinary spaces carried weight and permanence.
Today, labour is one of the most expensive parts of construction. To keep prices within reach, builders rely on automation, simplified layouts, and lighter materials. Speed and efficiency drive the process.
Mass production favours uniformity. Clean lines.
Predictable finishes. Replaceable components.
Craftsmanship has not disappeared. It has shifted upward into the custom and luxury market, where solid metal fixtures and detailed millwork now come at a premium.
Consumer habits changed too. Renovations happen more often. Trends move faster.
Many homes are designed with resale in mind rather than generations.

My book arrived today. For years, I was misdiagnosed and told my symptoms were anxiety, stress, or burnout. I was advised to meditate, sleep, and regulate better. But it turned out to be a brain tumour - melanoma, a type of brain cancer. This experience taught me that there's a crucial difference between dysregulation and disease, and between reassurance and negligence. When women's health concerns are consistently dismissed as psychological issues, it can lead to missed diagnoses and devastating consequences. I wrote It Really Was Just All in My Head… to empower others to advocate for themselves and seek proper medical attention. Remember, trusting your instincts and seeking a second opinion is not only responsible but also lifesaving. So, if something feels off, speak up and don't give up until you get the answers you deserve. Your persistence and self-advocacy can be truly powerful. If this resonates with you, share it with others to spread awareness about the importance of believing women and taking their health concerns seriously.
