🌿 Cedar Hedge Refresh Complete 🌿

Another beautiful property maintained by Elevate Property Solutions Co.

For this project, the client wanted to preserve the natural appearance and character of their mature cedar hedge while still improving sightlines and maintaining a more open visual outlook from the deck area.

Light side trimming and selective topping were completed to help shape and maintain the hedge without creating an overly manicured or harsh appearance. The end result provides a cleaner, healthier, and more maintained look while still keeping the cedars natural and full in appearance.

COYOTE MATING SEASON IN ONTARIO

Late January through early March is coyote mating season across Ontario, with peak breeding typically occurring in late February and early March. During this time, you may notice increased howling, more frequent movement, and heightened territorial behaviour. This is normal seasonal activity.

What this means for residents:

• Coyotes may be more vocal, especially at night
• Sightings can increase during peak breeding
• Adults are pairing up and establishing territory
• Pups are typically born in April or early May

Coyotes are a natural part of our ecosystem and help control rodent populations. Increased sightings during mating season do not automatically mean they are aggressive.

Smart precautions this time of year:

• Keep pets leashed and supervised
• Avoid leaving pet food outdoors
• Secure garbage and compost
• Mitigate extensive time spent in long grass or brushy areas
• Never intentionally feed wildlife

If you encounter a coyote, stay calm, make yourself look larger, maintain eye contact, and slowly back away.

🌱 What Is Your Lawn Doing Right Now in Eastern Ontario?

If you’re in Brighton, Quinte West, Cobourg, or the Northumberland region, your grass isn’t dead.

It’s dormant.

Most lawns here are cool-season grasses built for our climate. Once soil temperatures drop below about 10°C, growth stops and your lawn shifts into survival mode. The roots stay alive, storing energy for spring.

Fun fact: a consistent layer of snow actually helps insulate and protect your lawn.

Here’s what to keep in mind during winter:

✔️ Stay off frozen grass when possible
✔️ Be mindful of excessive salt near lawn edges
✔️ Avoid piling heavy snow in one area
✔️ Do not fertilize dormant turf

Heavy foot traffic and compaction now often show up as dead patches in April.

Winter is recovery season.
Spring is performance season.
