Every year World Environment Day, initiated by the United Nations Environmental Program, is celebrated on June 5th. This year, the call for group action is focused on plastic pollution which poses a threat to our environments and future generations.

Wondering how you can help? Check out Realstar's tips on how to use the 3 R's below:

Reuse: Opt for reusable bags, cutlery, and dishware. Find ways to repurpose old items and start a fun D.I.Y project to create recycled home decor!

Reduce: Refuse single-use plastics and shop for items that use less disposable packaging

Recycle: Properly dispose of recyclable materials, separate waste into the designated areas around your home

Join Us for International E-Waste Day on October 14th!

We were excited to announce that October 14th marks International E-Waste Day, a global initiative dedicated to responsible disposal of electronic waste (e-waste). As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, we invited you to join us in this important worldwide event.

Did you know?

According to the UN, 8 kg of e-waste per person will be produced worldwide in 2023. This means 61.3 million tonnes of electronic waste is discarded within a year – more than the weight of the Great Wall of China!

What we are doing:

In 2022, Realstar launched a formal e-waste collection and recycling program across our properties, to minimize our environmental impact. Together, we diverted 1,267 pounds of e-waste from landfills, minimizing the harmful effects of e-waste on our planet. Going forward, we aim to continue this positive trend and achieve even greater results.

Here's how you can participate in E-Waste Day on October 14th:

Gather Your E-Waste: Start by identifying any old or unused electronic devices and accessories you no longer need. This can include old computers, laptops, cell phones, chargers, cables, and other electronic gadgets. Drop off any items at the designated e-waste bin at your building.

Be Mindful of Your Electronic Consumption: As you declutter your electronic devices, take a moment to reflect on your electronic consumption habits. Consider ways to reduce unnecessary electronic purchases and prolong the lifespan of your devices through proper care and maintenance.

Spread the Word: Encourage your friends, neighbours, and family members to participate in E-Waste Day as well.

We appreciate your continued support for our e-waste program, and together, we can make a significant difference on October 14th. Let's come together as a community to protect our environment and create a cleaner, greener future.

Realstar is excited to introduce our newest environmental initiative as we celebrate Earth Day this April 22, 2022.

Realstar has partnered with the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA). For 15 years, the ERA has been taking unused electronics and refurbishing them for non-profits/charities or safely disposing them to ensure no toxins enter the environment. We couldn't be happier to join their efforts in reducing the amount of waste in our landfills, lessening the impact of e-waste on the environment and providing more people with access to technology.

ERA collection boxes are on-site at many Realstar communities for residents to safely donate old electronics giving them second life and divert e-waste from landfills!

We are currently seeking Assistant Resident Managers to live and work at one of our properties. This position would require you to live on-site and work four weekdays each week, every second weekend and on-call some evenings.

This position would require you to work with a partner and share a two-bedroom apartment.

Key Responsibilities of Assistant Resident Managers
• Cleaning common areas of property (hallways, stairs, elevators)
• Minor maintenance repairs
• Preparing apartments for new residents
• Providing exceptional customer service to residents and potential residents
• Assisting with leasing suites

This season consider the gift of hope for those in need by supporting your local food bank. Each spring, members of the Federation of Rental Housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO) along with residents, gather food donations during the Spring HOPE Food Drive.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need has never been greater. In lieu of food donations, and in an effort to keep everyone healthy, local food banks are asking for monetary donations to help with the shortfall (of a 130,000 pounds of food) that the annual door-to-door event would have gathered.

Join us in supporting the Spring HOPE Food Drive and help local food banks assist those who need it most.

To donate, visit your local food bank online or Feed Ontario at https://feedontario.ca/donate/ where every $1 you donate provides 3 meals to an Ontarian in need. As Always, you will receive a tax receipt in the full amount of your donation.
