New flood maps from the Quebec government will classify 55,000 more homes as flood-prone, tripling the current number. The maps, expected by 2025, will consider flood frequency, water depth, and climate change impacts. New regulations will affect construction and renovations in flood zones. Municipalities can lower flood risks with protective structures. Insurance rates may not be directly impacted, but Desjardins Group has already stopped offering new mortgages in high-risk areas. Public consultations on the new flood-management plan will be held this summer.
