Burlington’s Gluten-Free Bakery That Doesn’t Taste Gluten-Free 🤯

I honestly wasn’t expecting this. 😳

Everything at Turtledoves Bakery in Burlington is gluten-free — but it feels like a regular old-school bakery. Pies, cakes, pastries, breads and more.

We tried the pecan pie, apple pie, cheesecake danish and carrot cake — and everything was surprisingly good. Not dry. No strange gluten-free texture. You genuinely might not know the difference.

And the biggest surprise? The prices. That little pecan pie was around $6!

6,800+ Homes in Midtown Oakville: Where the 5 Mayoral Candidates Stand

Midtown Oakville has become one of the biggest issues in Oakville’s 2026 municipal election.

The Province’s transit-oriented community plan around Oakville GO calls for 11 buildings and more than 6,800 homes, and Ontario has committed to working toward maximum building heights of 38 storeys while maintaining the overall number of homes.

At this week’s mayoral debate, all five candidates Rob Burton, Sean O’Meara, Jeff Knoll, Julia Hanna and Arvind Choudhary addressed what they believe should happen with Midtown.

Their approaches differ on the provincial plan, density, infrastructure, zoning orders and transparency.

Whoever becomes Oakville’s next mayor will inherit this major development file.

NO to 138 Millcroft Homes… But Is It Really Over?

BREAKING: Burlington City Council has voted unanimously, 7- 0, to support City staff’s recommendation to refuse the applications for 138 proposed homes on portions of the Millcroft Golf Course - 73 detached homes and 65 townhouses.

But today’s vote may not be the end of the story.

There are competing MZO requests before the Province, and another clock is now running: Council was told the developer has 20 days to appeal the decision, potentially taking the matter to the Ontario Land Tribunal. Pasted markdown.md

Prime Bronte Village Condo Site Is Now For Sale | Oakville Development

One of the most prominent development sites in Bronte Village, Oakville is now for sale.

Located at Bronte Road and Lakeshore Road West, the property was planned as The Residences at Bronte Lakeside, a six-storey mixed-use luxury condominium project with 203 residential units and ground-floor commercial space.

The former two-storey commercial plaza was demolished in 2024 to make way for the development, but construction never began.

The project subsequently entered court-ordered receivership. Court and receivership materials identify a $19.1-million mortgage and more than $1.2 million in registered construction liens associated with the property.

Now the development site itself is being offered for sale — raising an interesting question about the future of one of Bronte Village’s most visible intersections.

Should a new owner proceed with the approved six-storey, 203-unit project?
Or should Oakville consider greater height and density at Bronte and Lakeshore?

138 More Homes on Millcroft Golf Course? Burlington Council Decides Sept. 29

Burlington’s long-running Millcroft Golf Course development battle is back.

A new proposal would add 138 homes - 73 detached homes and 65 townhouses - across six areas of the remaining golf course lands. City staff are recommending refusal, and Burlington City

Council is scheduled to consider the recommendation on September 29.

But this debate goes beyond housing. Is the concern about preserving a golf course, protecting green space and flood-management functions, or development within an established neighbourhood?

And there’s another important issue: these are privately owned lands.

I’ll be following the Sept. 29 Council meeting and posting an update on Sept. 30.

Newcomers Still Want to Buy Homes in Canada 🇨🇦

Is homeownership still part of the Canadian dream for newcomers?

According to the 2026 Royal LePage Canadian Newcomers Survey, 90% of newcomers say owning a home is important to feeling established in Canada, and among newcomers who don’t currently own their primary residence, 76% intend to buy one.

But affordability remains the challenge. Among those planning to buy, 61% say saving for a down payment is their biggest obstacle.

As an immigrant myself, I understand why buying a home can mean more than just owning real estate. For many newcomers, it represents putting down roots and saying, “This is home now.”
