CMHC: Housing Starts Remain Steady Despite August Dip
The latest CMHC numbers show a slight shift in Canada’s housing landscape: annual housing starts edged down to 229,046 units in August from 229,360 in July. Urban starts saw a decrease, while rural starts held at 11,224, and the six-month average dipped 1.3%. Notably, Quebec and Alberta showed gains, but these were balanced out by declines in Ontario. As someone who has guided buyers, sellers, and investors in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and across Greater Vancouver for over 15 years, I always keep a close eye on these trends. Understanding the ebb and flow of housing starts helps my clients make informed decisions—whether you’re planning your next move, considering an investment, or simply curious about how shifts in different provinces might impact our local market. Building real estate success comes down to trusted guidance, and that starts with staying informed.
