Announcing! The Ontario government has released the Greater Golden Horseshoe Transportation Plan, a 30-year vision for mobility to meet the demands of the region’s forecasted population and employment growth, and is committed to advancing the Caledon-Vaughan GO Line as a Conceptual High Order Transit Connection.

“I am pleased that the current provincial government has recognized that a transformational Greater Golden Horseshoe Transportation Plan is essential to support the anticipated growth that this region will experience over the next 30 years. Proposed infrastructure such as a Caledon-Vaughan GO Line and the GTA West Transportation Corridor being implemented together demonstrates this government’s understanding of the complex issue facing us all. It is particularly important that our residents are provided with the appropriate transportation options that suit their needs and lifestyles, while at the same time ensuring that connectivity between neighbouring communities is enhanced to foster the region’s economic growth in the decades to come. I believe this Greater Golden Horseshoe Transportation Plan provides the opportunity to achieve that goal.” — Jennifer Innis, Ward 3 and 4 Regional Councillor, Town of Caledon

“As a municipality projected to grow by 300,000 people and 125,000 jobs by 2051, advancing GO train service to Caledon now is smart, forward-looking planning,” said Town of Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson. “It’s a critical option for reducing traffic congestion on our roads, preserving Caledon’s quality of life, and protecting our environment and green spaces. We thank the Province and Metrolinx for taking this important next step.”

The GTA may become home to a brand new GO train line in the future as the Province officially commits to moving the project forward.

What will a transit hub mean for the future of Caledon? The benefits go beyond just safer and more accessible transportation routes, as Mayor Allan Thompson notes. Bringing the proposed GO Rail service will support an anticipated population growth of 1.4 million residents by 2051, and provide immediate peak service relief to 450,000 people in the area if approved. It will bring new jobs and businesses to Caledon, while connecting people to employment opportunities across the GTA. Learn more:

With the population of the Town of Caledon set to nearly quadruple from 81,000 to 300,000 residents by 2051, it is in need of a better transit network, something Ward 3 and 4 Regional Councillor Jennifer Innis recently noted to NRU Publishing Inc. "Having a connection to the greater regional transportation network is a benefit not only for Caledon, but also for our neighbouring municipalities," she noted. “We really do want to be planning communities that are not car- centric, but that are sustainable. Public transportation is a major component of that." Read more below.
