Sorell Insulation | Why Baffles Matter
Small piece of the attic. Big job.
These are baffles — channels installed along the underside of the roof where it meets the soffits. Their job is simple: keep the airflow path open.
Your attic needs to breathe. Air comes in through the soffit vents, travels up along the roof deck, and exits near the peak. That flow keeps the attic dry, prevents moisture buildup, and helps stop ice dams from forming in winter.
The problem: blown-in insulation can drift into the soffits and choke off that airflow completely. Blocked soffits mean a sealed attic — and a sealed attic means trapped moisture, wet insulation, mould risk, and shingles cooking from underneath in the summer.
Baffles hold the channel open. Insulation goes deep, airflow stays clear, and both do their jobs without fighting each other.
Insulation without ventilation is only half the system. We install both, every time.

That’s attic work in a nutshell. Every step lands on a joist, or somebody downstairs gets a very unexpected skylight.

This is why insulation looks easy and isn’t. Moving through an attic loaded with equipment, staying on the framing, working in tight spaces and summer heat — it takes practice, balance, and a healthy respect for drywall.
