Eamon Smithers Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Eamon Smithers, cherished husband and father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, on August 6, 2026. Eamon passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Beloved husband and life partner of Emma, Eamon leaves behind his cherished daughters, Catelyn, Grace, Lauren, Lindsay, and Julia. Left to mourn his passing are his siblings, Bernadette (Greg), Ann, Colette, John (Karen), and Emma’s family Elissa (Patrick); Rose (Lorena); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Eamon was predeceased by his loving parents, John and Bernadette Smithers, and his sister, Louise.
Born on April 25, 1967, in Dublin, Ireland, Eamon was the youngest of six children. He had a happy childhood and emigrated to Canada with the family in 1977. Eamon finished school in Calgary, attending St. Helena’s Jr. High School and St. Francis High School where he made many life long friends.
Eamon tried a number of careers, including one that took him to Fort McMurray, where he met his beloved Emma.
Eamon had the spirit of an entrepreneur and was passionate about and proud of the business he and Emma built in Calgary. He was deeply grateful for his employees, many from the Filipino community. He will be fondly remembered by his team and customers.
Eamon was a devoted soccer coach and an avid Calgary Flames fan. He had a passion for golf and a lifelong love of music, particularly the music of Johnny Cash, The Beatles, and Elvis. He enjoyed a good Karaoke session and was often first to the mic.
Some of Eamon’s most treasured moments came in the last few years, raising and spending time with his youngest daughter Catelyn. He found joy teaching her the skills he loved in both soccer and golf. Together, they created beautiful memories, including singing along to music in the car.
Eamon had personal struggles in adult life and Emma stood by him and with him as he strove to overcome them and be the best version of himself. Emma will remember him as a loving husband and father, a generous provider, a loyal friend, and a caring employer. She will forever treasure her husband and life partner, remembering the love and laughter they shared, their enjoyment of watching Coronation Street together, and the lifetime of memories they created side by side.
The family extends a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Foothills Medical Centre for the compassionate care provided to Eamon.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services South (5502 2 Street SW) on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 - 18th Avenue SW) on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 10:00 am, livestreaming will be available for those unable to attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ‘Inn From The Cold Society’.
