I was born and raised in Thorncliffe.

I learned to ride my bike on these streets. I knew which houses had the best Halloween candy. I knew where my friends lived, where my babysitter lived, and where the neighborhood kids would end up on a summer evening.

Now, I drive those same streets for work as a Realtor®️ and they're changing.

Homes I have memories of are coming down. In their place are fourplexes, rowhouses, and new developments. It's all part of Calgary's growth and rezoning.

The truth is, we need more homes. We need more housing options. We need places that young families, first-time buyers, seniors, and people just starting out can actually afford.

I truly believe that.

But I also think it's okay to feel a little sad.

Because when you've spent your whole life in one community, you're not just watching buildings disappear. You're watching pieces of your own story change.

Progress and nostalgia can exist at the same time.

As someone who was born here, still lives here, and now helps people buy and sell homes here, I see both sides every day. Calgary is growing whether we're ready or not. The challenge isn't stopping the change it's making sure we don't lose the sense of community that made these neighborhoods so special in the first place.

Most people don’t need a realtor telling them everything they “have to” fix before selling.
