As the Calgary Flames kick off their farewell season under the iconic saddle roof, I couldn't help but look back at what the Calgary housing market looked like on October 15, 1983—the night Lanny McDonald scored the very first Flames goal in the building! 🔴🔥

The shift in our city over the last 43 years is wild:
📉 1983: The average single-family home in Calgary cost around $95,000. But here’s the kicker—buyers were battling staggering 13% mortgage interest rates! If home prices had strictly followed basic inflation, that $95k home would only cost about $270,500 today.

📈 TODAY: As the Flames play their final games here before moving to Scotia Place next year, Calgary’s detached benchmark price sits at $744,300. Standard currency inflation couldn't keep up with Calgary’s massive growth—real estate values completely outpaced it!

🏟️ Fun Arena Fact: The city built the original Saddledome for $97.7 million in 1983. The new event centre across the street? It's tracking at $1.2 billion.

We may be saying goodbye to the 'Dome, but Calgary’s real estate market continues to be an incredible engine for equity.
