I love this city, but when someone tells me they want more house, a bigger yard, and room to breathe, I don’t always keep them inside the city limits. Sometimes the smartest move is 20 minutes down the highway.

The three I keep coming back to:

Okotoks 🌾 that small-town feel everyone’s chasing. Sheep River pathways, a walkable downtown, and enough charm that it never feels like a compromise.

Chestermere 🌊 lake living 20 minutes from downtown. Summers on the water, and detached homes with more square footage than you’d get for the same money in the city.

Cochrane ⛰️ mountain views out your window and MacKay’s ice cream down the road. That “weekend feels like a getaway” energy, with an easy commute back when you need it.

I’m from Nova Scotia and I made the same move a lot of you are thinking about, leaving the coast behind and betting on a better life out here. It’s a big leap but it’s also one I’d make again in a heartbeat.
