Congratulations to the women & men of the graduating class of 2026!
As an ‘industry elder’ in the commercial real estate sector in Canada, I have the privilege of meeting with university real estate clubs and attending commercial real estate career days. I speak to students about various career paths in commercial real estate, providing mentorship to those entering or evolving their careers within the industry. This endeavor is very satisfying for me, and it is evident that the commercial real estate industry will be in capable hands with these future leaders!

Walt Disney once said, “If you can visualize it, if you can dream it, there’s some way to do it.”

During the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdown, I wrote an essay titled “Reimagining Downtown Calgary,” which was published on LinkedIn on May 19, 2020. I envisioned a role for artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs in reinventing Calgary’s downtown core and its surroundings.

Fast forward to 2025, I joined the Board of Directors at cSPACE Projects, alongside a dedicated group of individuals who are passionate about arts and culture spaces in Calgary. cSPACE Projects was established to ensure that creative work continues to have a place to thrive. They transform spaces into incubating ventures, helping arts organizations evolve from fragile to flourishing. This remarkable social enterprise is committed to supporting communities of artists, non-profits, and entrepreneurs who are working at the creative edge of change.

The adventures of a commercial real estate broker never disappoint!

The retail leasing sector is particularly fast-paced and diverse, reflecting consumer preferences and the ever-changing built environment.

I am proud to have been a licensed Commercial Real Estate Broker with the Real Estate Council of Alberta for the past 34 years. The Council, known as RECA, serves as the province’s independent regulator for real estate, mortgage brokerage, and condominium management. It is crucial to uphold a trusted, accountable, and competitive industry that protects Albertans.

As a Broker with specialized expertise in consumer real estate, including retail, restaurant, and medical leasing at shopping centers and main streets across the province, I work hard to adhere to the high professional standards set by the Council's Rules and Code of Conduct.

Recently, I attended the Calgary Commercial Broker Forum at the Council's offices, where we received updates on various matters, including credentialing that was very interesting. The Forum attendees noted details of several current topics in the real estate industry, such as the growth of Artificial Intelligence, the use of E-Signatures and Cryptocurrency that are relevant in our practices.

I hope this post inspires licensed real estate practitioners everywhere to revisit your Council's Rules and Code of Conduct. Strive to be the best in your professional endeavors, knowing that you are held to a high standard. RECA plays an important role in Alberta, a dynamic province experiencing robust economic growth and expansion, with exciting times ahead. See you along the real estate transaction trail!

Calgary, Alberta is currently experiencing a ‘golden age’ of development and transformation in its arts, culture, and entertainment infrastructure.
These vital resources are essential to the vitality of every thriving city.

It was pleasure to have attended the Southern Alberta Shopping Centre Association's Spring Knowledge & Networking luncheon on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Hotel Arts in downtown Calgary. The event was themed ‘Cool Calgary Projects’ and highlighted three major projects currently underway and featured a lineup of three distinguished speakers:

- Clare LePan, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation who provided an update on the Culture & Entertainment District.
- Alex Sarian, President & CEO at the Werklund Centre, discussed the redevelopment of Arts Commons into Western Canada’s largest arts hub.
- Meghan Vallance, Director of Communications Services at the Glenbow Museum, shared an update on the exciting ‘Glenbow Museum Reimagined.’
