The Bank of Canada today held its target for the overnight rate at 2.25 per cent, with the Bank Rate at 2.5 per cent and the deposit rate at 2.20 per cent.

Sales activity has been slowing causing the months of supply to rise. There’s 2.5 months of supply for detached and more than 5 months of supply in the apartment market. Overall, we are in a balanced market except for apartment style units where conditions favour the buyer. This is impacting apartment prices to trend down.

There is still too much uncertainty globally to make a move right now. The biggest drivers:

➡️The ongoing conflict in the Middle East pushing oil prices up

➡️US trade decisions are still affecting the market

When oil goes up, costs go up, which puts pressure on inflation. 💡💡Remember, inflation is a key component of the Bank of Canada’s decision making on moving rates (or not).
